Evok When I first heard Mysterium my first thought was “loss”. Shortly after the fact I decided to read up on the album’s back-story and it wasn’t long until I was reading through my tears. If you want to be moved to your core by genuine, heavy and heartwrechning emotion conveyed through lush choral keys and ambiance then this is something you need to hear. Hammock haven’t lost their magic, but this time around they wield it under gray skies in the throes of tragedy’s poetic beauty.

zero_requiem00 My fav is actually Mysterium, Things of Beauty Burn and Numinous. This is my favorite band. I love how different each album sounds yet maintains that distinct Hammock sound we all love.

Thank you guys! you really are the best band! Favorite track: Things of Beauty Burn.

about

The Nashville duo Hammock — celebrated by Pitchfork, NPR, the BBC, The Atlantic, and Ricky Gervais — returns on August 25 with Mysterium, the band’s eighth album since its founding in 2003. Composed as a memorial to Clark Kern, a son-like figure to Hammock co-founder Marc Byrd who died in 2016 from the tumor strain NF2, Mysterium merges modern classical, ambient, and choral music, and it’s of a piece with recent records by Max Richter and Jóhann Jóhannsson. The gorgeous, hour-long collection features contributions from the Berlin mix engineer Francesco Donadello (Winged Victory for the Sullen, Ólafur Arnalds), Peter Katis (The National, Jónsi, Interpol), and the Hamburg orchestrator Roman Vinuesa (“Iris,” “Umrika”), who transcribed scores for the Budapest Art Choir.
